Portability is what we all are looking for in this new and developed world. We all want to carry our devices with us and stay connected with the people who are in another corner of the world. We also want our works do be done no matter where we are sitting and doing that. Well, the whole point of this is that the way we stay connected to the world has changed. People now no more get stuck in to one place to get all their works done. Yes, this is the wireless era. We are free to carry our devices wherever we want. Wireless connections have many benefits over the wired ones. In a way, both type of connections has benefits and are used in different cases.
Before getting into the benefits of wireless connections over the wired ones, let’s see what are they and how they operate.
What is a wireless network and a wired network?
Wireless network is the one that allows your devices to stay connected to the network and roam untethered to any wires. When you connect to a Wi-Fi, the devices can be taken far from the router and can still be connected to the network because the access points amplify the WI-FI signals.
Whereas, a wired network uses cables to connect devices like computers or laptops to internet networks. Here, your device is tethered to a router. At one end, the cable is connected to an Ethernet port on the network router and at another end to your devices. And this is one of the biggest disadvantages of the wired network. You cannot take your devices far from the router because you are connected to the network cable. But still, these types of connections are used in certain places for various reasons.
Both the wireless and wired has their own advantages as well as disadvantages. Determining which type of connection is better for you depends on how and for what you are using it.
Mobility: You are free to carry your devices anywhere at any time. When it comes to business, employees can access any important files and documents from anywhere in the office through their laptops or tablets or mobile phones. This is one of the significant advantages of wireless networks. This isn’t the scene with the wired ones. Since cables are connected to your systems, you have to stay in one place and work. Surprisingly, employees in many business companies or offices still use wired connections for their office work.
Organisation: Wireless networks looks so neat since there are very few wires unlike wired networks with the bundles of wires. Your place looks very neat and clear and also more organised. Maintenance is very easier with less wire connections and you don’t need to worry about getting confused with the appropriate connections with jumbled wires. Whereas maintenance with the wired ones are very difficult with so many cables running around. If the system doesn’t have proper labelling, it is really difficult to determine what cables are connected where. And sometimes, you need to replace the cables when they are really goes bad and again it’s the matter of money.
it stands for ‘Bring your own device.’ This policy can be followed at your workplace where is the availability of wireless networks.
1. Cost effective
Wireless networks are very comfortable to install and provides the best features with the affordable prices. Just like in wired networks you don’t need to spend more money on so many wires, drilling and connecting. Wired network are very expensive since they include lot of prior set-up. In addition to the cost, wired networks are not much comfortable to use as compared to the wireless ones and also deploying all the cables are very difficult.
2. Instant access
Wireless technologies take very less time to get activated as compared to other networks like wired ones.
3. Increase in reach
Here, the network is reached to the different part of that particular area like in offices or home. One wireless network can be used by many which is available at different parts of that area without any help of cables and wires. Whereas, for the wired networks, you need stick to one place where your systems or devices are connected through wires or cables and cannot move anywhere.
4. Increase in Efficiency
The improvements in data communications will help for faster data transmissions between people. It takes a couple of seconds to send your data to another person through any of your devices.
5. Enhanced flexibility
The existing networks can be easily upgraded with the new features easily. Whereas, in wired networks, you will have to upgrade the cables and this takes high cost again to run the new cables. Cables actually needs to be upgraded if there is a modern network plan.
6. Providing the opportunities
Wireless connections not only helps us by providing the networks but also creates an opportunities for us to work in such as wireless network engineering, wireless network expert, wireless engineering and so on.
7. Increase in Scalability
Wireless networks are easily scalable and can be moulded easily based on ones requirements. Networks can be easily configured based on specific requirements. Aps can be upgraded to cover new areas. Whereas, wired networks are more difficult to scale. In this, you need to run more cables again which includes more costs.
